Reinventing Letterpress

Earlier in the summer we got our copy of Reinventing Letterpress by Charlotte Rivers (also released as The Little Book of Letterpress). I've finally found a moment to share it! It's a fun collection of works by letterpressers all over the country and even the world, from small studios to big ones. We were happy to find many of our friends and collaborators sharing the pages with us.

I've been a fan of our page partner, On Kamal, since I saw her work at the Stationery Show last year. So simple yet so striking. The curves and patterns in her cards remind me of what I love best about art nouveau but keep a distinct reference to traditional Indian design and patterns.

In celebration of Earth Day, we at Albertine are delighted to announce our new Letterpress Library!

  

Our challenge: how do we create a sustainable yet eye-catching and unified presentation for our note card sets?

Our solution: the Letterpress Library. Each “volume” in the library contains one set of our award-winning decorative note cards. The design is a modern take on traditional bookcovers, kind of like us, using old-fashioned presses in a modern world. The library unifies our collection of notes and the covers are printed on 100% recycled stock eliminating the need for plastic and vinyl packaging. The note cards, as always, are letterpress printed by hand onto luxurious 100% cotton stock, one piece at a time on antique presses.

  

Plus we think they look pretty spiffy all in a row.

Holy Heidelberg

The National Braille Press, an 83-year-old publishing house in Boston, printed the Harry Potter series on its Heidelberg cylinder; the final product was 56 volumes, each nearly a foot tall.

Renegade Baby

Our Brooklyn adventure couldn't have happened on a more glorious weekend. It was a delightful way to spend two days outside, with friends, family, the babe, and surrounded by all kinds of craft-loving goodness. To start, a fabulous typography-loving shirt:



We shared our booth with Kelly of May Day Studio. Her books are simply divine, and I adore this shot of her display of the retro-found-fabric-covered journals.



Her Bingo Books drew in a lot of nice peeps, many of whom also got some of our little journals, too.



Sadie (here with her "auntie" Kelly) was absolutely peachy in her I Heart NY shirt and entertained us all.

We made god friends with our neighbors and did some fine bartering (my favorite was a new apron from Leah at Rustbelt Fiber Werks). Pics forthcoming.
