Unquotable

Thanks to the great press in the Boston Globe, coupled with fabulous timing of post-holiday engagements and prep for June weddings, I've been very busy lately with quotes and proposal writing. This is just about my least favorite task (even less than accounting) and sadly, doesn't even lend well to blogging (no interesting photos).

Luckily, all of this work will hopefully lead to many really interesting new designs to print, which I always look forward to.

I just finished up printing some beautiful envelope liners for a couple getting married in Jamaica. The green World Notes pattern is such a lush, welcome surprise upon opening the envelope. Now to cut and assemble 299 more...

Out with the old

In the hustle-bustle hubbub of the end-of-year holidays and then vacation, I never did get a chance to post some of the really amazing projects finished up before the hiatus.

One of my favorite projects, possibly ever, was this boarding pass invitation set. The four-page pass included all information for a destination wedding to the Bahamas.

Next up was a folder for a cd and other promotional material for a lovely couple who are wedding photographers. I love the sprawling organic design.

Pretty in pink was an oh-so-sweet bat mitzvah invitation set, featuring a lily design for Lily.

Another favorite to wrap up the set was a sketch of the barn in Virginia where another couple will be married. I love these location sketches, so personal and simple. Bring 'em on!

A taste of Italy

There's not much internet access for me while I'm traveling, but here are a few sneak peakeroos of the print-happy things Italy had in store for me.

Marisa and I spent a lovely yet intense four days printmaking and typesetting in Urbino, in le Marche province. Here's a photo of the studio where we were working:

And the single-digit century house where we stayed (with the maestro of the studio):

Of course, Italian typecases are laid out differently than English ones, but I was typesetting in Italian, so it made intuitive sense.

The composing sticks were single line.

This is Surgo, the ginormous proof press which I had to work on; hand inking only (not my forte, I discovered).

In the three actual days of printing I undertook an ambitious, eight-page, three-print-run-each, edition-of-sixteen book project (which I only *just* finished printing before we had to leave, though my carving suffered a little for the rush). Here are two of my favorite pages.

More pictures from the trip and more after my return this weekend.

Ciao ciao!

Auld acquaintance

A very happy new year to everyone!

It has been a most amazing year - workshops, collaborations, local markets, paper & chocolate, new ideas, designing, printing and so much more. Thank you to everyone who touched us in any way this past year - it wouldn't have been the same without you.

And now for a little vacation...
