Hot off the... electrons?

Decor8, one of the design blogs I read daily (and Boston-based to boot!), has posted about Albertine Press! Click here to read all about it. Thanks, Holly!

How sweet it is!

It's official - the gurus of great finds in city living at Daily Candy have blessed us with a "sugar coated" write up in today's Boston edition! I read my "candy" everyday, even for cities I no longer live in, so it's a real "treat" to be featured.

Click on the article to link to the full write up (including local stores).

For those who have never heard of Daily Candy (gasp!), here's a bit about them in their own words:
DailyCandy, a free daily e-mail newsletter and website, is the insider’s guide to what’s hot, new, and undiscovered — from fashion and style to gadgets and travel. As useful as it is entertaining, it’s like getting an e-mail from your clever, unpredictable, and totally in-the-know best friend. The one who knows about secret beauty treatments, must-have jeans, hot new restaurants — and always shares the scoop.

Hot off the press

That's right, ladies and gentlemen - the folks at Stuff @ Night think Albertine Press is one of 100 people, places and trends that you need to know about, now.

Visit one of those pretty plastic boxes on the corner for a free copy of Stuff @ Night to read about us and 99 other fabulous Boston hot stuffs - or just read about us in the clip below.

Hot off the Press

Magazine press, that is.

Bostonians should visit the orange boxes on street corners and pick up a copy of this weeks' Boston's Weekly Dig...

... and look in the style section where there's a little featurette on letterpress (including, guess who?). I should note that they switched the images of my green World Notes card with the Rock On from Goosefish, which I so graciously re-edited for the purposes of this blog.

Oooh, I'm quotable!

Referring, of course, to Beezu, the 10x15 treadle platen C+P.

They (at the Dig) insist that a slide show of sorts with more quotes and photos will be available on the website anon.

Rock on.

Hot off the Press

In the just-released June/July edition of Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion Magazine, on page 26, you'll see a familiar looking card at #8 - our Postmark design! It's right in the middle, too!

So far we've gotten terrific responses from buyers at the Stationery Show - updates and pictures in just a few days.

And... last but certainly not least, Christine at Boston's Weekly Dig came to our last Paper & Chocolate event. She was so impressed with the shop and our work that she's proposed writing a little feature on letterpress! Of course you'll see it posted here as soon as it comes out.

Hot off the Press

Our first national feature is in print!!! I don't think it's quite on newsstands, but here's a sneak peak at Albertine Press in the April issue of Country Living Magazine, page 90.

Inspiration

Yesterday brought a new found realization of the sheer number of artists and graphic designers who have just very recently taken up letterpress and founded their own printshops. While I'm, of course, excited at the enormous enthusiasm that the art has generated, I'm also feeling just a wee bit territorial.

Then I got an email notification of the feature of our "Postmark" save the date card as "New and Noteworthy" in the early summer issue of Home Companion Magazine. Just the pick-me-up the doctor ordered!

I topped off the day with some printing - it was the cover for a memorial keepsake book, and accompanying bookmark. I'm especially partial to the boat that went onto the back cover. The font was originally a Black Adder, very pirate-like, but in the end the clients decided on something more traditional.

Love's Philosophy

A giant thanks goes out to everyone who made it to the first of what I hope will be many Paper & Chocolate celebrations! Well over 150 people showed up and were able to print their own valentine, a poem by Percy Shelley (my namesake... stay tuned for the scan), taste freshly ground chocolate and have a generally grand ole' time. Sadly, I was too busy helping with the printing to take pictures of all of the fabulous people who visited, but here are some photots of the shop before we got swamped!

Jacob in front of the wall of fame (some of my favorite projects, and pictures of my great-grandfather's printshop/bindery).

Ducks and Hot Tamales were the biggest hits of the afternoon.

The three sisters all decked out for the holiday!

Check out the new accordion cards, many bound with paper I marbled last year. Looking forward to more marbling in the near future.

Making last minute adjustments to the type (deleting that extra "the").

Mmmmm.... goodies.

Big thanks to Erin Gardner of Wild Orchid Baking Co. who made these absolutely adorable chocolate "Albertines"! Not only were they a hit, but I didn't even get to try one!!! In fact, my stepdad, who took one home, is sending it back to me to rectify that.

So, once again, thanks to everyone, from the littlest printers (9 months old) to John Barrett of Letterpress Things, who helped out with his 40+ years of letterpress knowledge and wisdom; Taza Chocolate and La Tene Chocolatier, for collaborating on the event; Erin for the chocolates and expert display skills; Mike for the photographs; Daphne for superior postering skills; and most of all to friends, family, letterpress afficianados, future collaborators, neighbors and chocolate lovers who came out to celebrate the best parts of Valentine's Day - paper & chocolate.

New Year's Goings-on

Lots of goodness happening in the shop in the new year.

First, all of the big presses are running - fabulous Robin and Mark have come to the rescue and helped set in the flywheels on the big beasts and remove extraneous parts from Iggy. I'd like to talk about Iggy for a minute: she huffs and puffs, and actually grunts like a big warthog or a train on crack. It's rather endearing. Especially the little *ding* when you switch from trip to print.

Second, the new spring catalogs finally arrived and look great. I'm very excited to send them out - in a few hours! The project for the rest of the weekend will be to update the designs on the website as well. Then to actually print all of these cards so we'll have something to send to all these stores when the orders come rolling in.

Third, Albertine Press is going to be featured in the April issue of Country Living Magazine - estimated readership of 1.7 million people! Look for Marisa's "Fish Wish" card when it hits newsstands in late March. More updates on that later.

Lastly, well, no, that's it, but it's all pretty darn exciting, would you say?
