Somewhere over the rainbow - an IGF journey

As the gift fair neared to a close, I expected to bring Sadie along for another of her round-ups, but was disappointed when she told me that morning, "Mommy, I don't want to go to your booth today." Who could blame her when Bubbie was promising adventures at parks and riverside lunches.

In her honor I do a post about rainbows, which I'd already picked out as our mission. There are really so many items across the spectrum (ha!) which come in a rainbow palette. Plus the bright, primary grab of a rainbow display is hard to resist. Without further ado, an IGF journey somewhere over the rainbow:

Letterpress Library by Albertine Press;

Tags by 9spotmonk; donburi bento box by (ack! can't find the business card - sorry!); teapots and dishware by Yedi Housewares;

Totes by Flip and Tumble; signage from the Mexico designers' pavilion; desk accessories by Suck UK;

Washi tape by Mark's Tokyo Edge;

Clock by Karlsson; tote by Fluf; silverware by Guzzini;

Glasses, bracelets and coasters by Tina Frey Designs; woodland animals by Lovi; candles by Skeem;

Booth display by Nervous System; vases by Jill Rosenwald Studio, pencils distributed by Brand Node;

Card by The Great Lakes
What's your favorite rainbow product?

Sadie at the NYIGF

It's that time again - Sadie's recap of NYIGF, winter 2012!

We stopped by to visit our friends at Smudge Ink where we admired the wall of gift wrapped presents as well as snagged some swag (a greeting card with turtles).

Just down the aisle we picked up a green duckie to complete our collection from the kind folks at Elegant Baby.

The merits of the "Cutie Pie" plate are pointed out in the Jane Jenni booth.

We j'adored the gorgeously fun pop-out, build-it-yourself, letterpress town card by the ladies at One Canoe Two.

Considering a switch to mid-century modern after test driving some of the mini-versions at Little Nest.

Soooo many things to see in the Crow and Canary booth. Sadie spotted some familiar pieces by Pie Bird Press (which we have hanging up at home).

The pennant garland was also given the Sadie stamp of approval.

Examining the color and pattern variations on the paper weights by The Great Lakes.

We spotted many "familiar" things at Chewing the Cud, and those that weren't now are (because we placed our own little order of these fabulous canvas baskets).

Still in love with the star lamps at Artecnica, Sadie even walked away with one of her own. When asked which one she liked the best (and just look at all those amazing colors!) she picks white. Well, it's classic and star-colored, I'll give her that.

Hand-embroidered piƱata pillows attracted Sadie because of all the candy spilling out.

I picked up one of these Finnish birds in blue at Michelle Willey about a year ago and we loved seeing more of them living in the cut-out trees. I cannot remember who makes them, so if anyone can help me out here, I'd appreciate properly referencing these!

And after lunchtime back at the booth we get a surprise visit from cousin Leila and Bubbie Cookie, there to take Sadie home.

Thanks for the tour, kiddo!

Views from a booth - NYIGF

After weeks of crazy and about a year of planning, scouring flea markets, Ikea and Home Depot, a finished booth. Cool and industrial to contrast our soft cotton-y goodies.

Alligator clips on a curtain wire worked beautifully for the card display. Much more versitile from show to show - I can reorganize the cards in any fashion that makes sense for the season.

The Letterpress Library always looks spiffy, but especially so in its drawer/shelf/shadowbox.

Welcome new journals! Ten city scape journals were a big hit, and lots of requests for other cities are pouring in (Toronto, Boston, Manhattan, just to start).

It's true, j'adore Kelly's new "field" pattern - so springtime and happy!

A little Hipstamatic shot of Angela's gorgeous spools.

"Anthropologie-style" shadow boxes of vintage glassine envelopes and stamps, making mighty fine use of the mighty magnets, thank-you-very-much.

Last, but certainly not least, I love our new signs by Woodland Manufacturing. I can't say enough about their amazing service - we had a shipping snafu and nearly didn't have signs for the show, until super-Molly did a two-hour turnaround and overnight-Saturday-delivery shipping to get us a new set in time. Amazing. Thanks, guys - these were the icing on the cake!

Stay tuned for Sadie's walkthrough later this week.

Sadie takes on the summer IGF

Time once again for Sadie's semi-annual recap of the NY International Gift Fair

Every time she has a better understanding of the show and this time even recognized our booth. Our morning exchange: "Mommy, where are you going?" "To my booth." "I can come with you?"

Yes, and Elmo, Big Bird and Grover came along, too.

She wastes no time in pointing out Kelly's blue-tiful display.

Sadie giving her critique of the booth. We (sniff) scrapped the walls and floors at the end of the show and will be returning in January with an all new look.

Back to our walking tour of the show. First stop was Jill Rosenwald Studio. A fellow Bostonian and founding member of Boston Design Salon I always adore seeing her latest stunning ceramic patterns. The taupe and orange combo is one of my favorites and looks like Sadie gives it her stamp of approval as well.

Across the way Sadie takes time to show Seema how to artfully arrange her Skeem candles.

We admired the hanging bird feeder (and those pipe fittings!) at Pigeon Toe ceramics.

Elmo and friends also found a cozy next in the wire baskets we're considering for part of our display next year.

Posing in front of the display at Wall Candy Arts (one of many wall decal companies that have sprung up like flowers everywhere).

Sadie serenaded me with Twinkle Twinkle underneath the star lamps from Artecnica. In fact we had to go back and visit this booth no fewer than three times that day.

I took a risk and ventured downstairs to the Kids and Baby section. We stopped for awhile at P'kolino where Sadie took their kid's easel for a test drive. Her fish masterpiece was so well received she was even featured on the P'kolino Facebook page. Her efforts were rewarded with a new set of crayons and a coloring book. [I drew the outline, the rest is all Sadie]

A Danish company licensed the rights to make Lego toy boxes, lunch containers and water bottles. The toy boxes are amazing - giant Lego blocks that actually stack just like regular Legos. Sadie was their number one live demonstration model and walked away with three snack containers for her "troubles". They will be available at the Container Store sometime in October and at museum stores in time for holiday shopping.

Visiting the toys at Kushies/Zolo.

Playing with the cut out taxi cabs from Pop Outs by Marc Tetro.

We did a little back-to-school shopping at Zutano.

All that walking around is hard work - no time like lunchtime to meet back at home-booth for pb+b sandwiches.

Until January!
